Started playing guitar around six years of age, initially self-taught, gradually progressing to playing in Rock and Blues bands around twelve years old. Around this time studied music theory and harmony with a local tutor and also got involved with the dance band scene.

Whilst playing a function gig John was spotted by the musical director of a visiting Motown act from the U.S.A. and asked to be guitarist on their next UK tour. This was to be the start of many tours and work as a session player including CD’s Radio, TV Shows etc. A chance meeting with Jazz guitarist Martin Taylor and a subsequent invitation to perform together led to a dramatic change in direction career wise.
